Understanding Broker Credit Checks
June 26, 2026 4 min readBy Flow Fleet Solutions

Non-payment and slow-pay brokers are among the biggest threats to a trucking business. Broker credit checks are your first line of defense.
What is checked
Before booking, a dispatcher reviews the broker's credit score, days-to-pay history, and reputation in the industry. This tells you whether the broker pays on time and whether the load is worth the risk.
Why it matters for factoring
If you use a factoring company, they often will not advance on brokers with poor credit. Checking ahead of time keeps your cash flow smooth and avoids surprises at settlement.
The bottom line: never haul for a broker who will not pay. A few minutes of vetting protects days of hard work.
